Women’s Lacrosse is a new and growing sport. While Women’s Lacrosse was first played in the 1890’s, it didn’t become a popular American sport until the 2000’s. Lacrosse is often described as a combination of hockey and soccer, and many people who play lacrosse also play hockey or soccer. The game is played with a small ball, the size of a tennis ball, made of solid rubber, often white or yellow, although yellow is the standard color for women’s lacrosse. Players pass the ball using lacrosse sticks: sticks about a yard long with a net in the end to hold the ball. The ball is never touched with hands, only with the sticks. Unlike men’s lacrosse, women’s lacrosse does not encourage physical contact, even though it is considered a high contact sport.
